Carl
Following a Diploma in Agriculture from Lincoln University, and some time spent travelling overseas in Europe, and Australia, Carl came home to help with the farm. Having seen the growth in dairying in the region and therefore increased demand for agricultural services, he started Koi Contracting Ltd in 2008. After 4 years of growth, he sold a share of Koi Contracting to Andy Roberts, a friend, who now runs the business in conjunction with Carl who continues to have a strong interest in the dairy industry and its future in the south. 
Andy
Andy grew up on a family farm in the Kaimai Ranges, bordering the Waikato and Bay of Plenty regions. Shifting to the Manawatu in 2006, he studied a Bachelor of Applied Science in Agriculture from Massey University, where he also met his partner Lisa, now a local Vet in Gore. Following study and working for contractors in his holidays he went to America to work on the travelling harvest through the Midwest. The experience gained here, landed him a spot with a large scale grain and livestock farming operation in Wendonside in Northern Southland. From here he went on to manage a Livestock Grazing business at Five Rivers (Northern Southland) before being offered the opportunity by Carl to become part of Koi Contracting. Andy has a strong interest in crop agronomy along with animal feeding and nutrition. |
History
In the early 90’s, the Conlan family (Eddie and Jude, with kids John, Carl and Georgina) shifted to West Otago from their original farm in Oamaru. By the late 90’s they became involved in the Dairy industry taking part in one of the earlier farm Conversions from sheep to dairying in the heart of Waikoikoi. Following this venture they shifted further down the Waikaka Valley to another property which they converted to Dairy in 2008. This now provides the base for Koi Contracting. Andy & Carl are very much hands on owner-operators. They are both actively involved in the business. Koi Contracting provide an efficient service to the farming community. One of the main priorities at Koi Contracting is to provide a specialised and experienced service for their clients, old and new, small or large.
